Head of Governance & Assurance

Badenoch + Clark are proud to be partnering with Inquilab Housing Association to recruit their Head of Governance & Assurance. Inquilab provide social housing, housing related services and home ownership products for a wide range of London communities. This role will support Inquilab with their governance and regulatory requirements as well as their company secretariat function.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Prepare and present reports on compliance and assurance matters as required to the Executive Management Team, Boards and Committees.

Critically analyse and lead the development and monitoring of a framework of core standards to assure the Association's compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Work with the Board and Executive Management Team to develop and maintain a realistic risk management framework with the objective of enabling the Association to plan, anticipate and respond to changes in the operating environment.

Manage the Association's governance framework and ensure the effective management of the provision of the Association's internal audit services

Ensure the Association's arrangements for health and safety comply with relevant legislation and meet best practice

Validate compliance with Risk Management policies carry out investigations as required on Control Failures and identified fraud activities as well as assisting in the oversight of Business Continuity Plans.

Contribute to the identification of priorities for the Association and to the development, review and implementation of strategy and policy, ensuring that valid and reliable advice and information is provided to Association Members.

Be responsible for all company secretarial requirements for these entities and provide a focal point for the organisation's company secretarial matters.

Monitor all Board and Committee meetings and ensure that they are organised and serviced within the law, constitution, regulation, policies, procedures and standing orders.

Continuously review the organisation's legal and governance structures and work with external consultants, solicitors or stakeholders to ensure the effective and appropriate governance arrangements of Inquilab


Chartered Secretary or equivalent qualification/experience (Essential)
Legal qualification desirable
Bachelor's degree or equivalent (Desirable)

Knowledge and skills required

Ability to understand and interpret complex legal information pertinent to the provision of company secretarial matters.
Agenda-planning and preparation of formal minutes of governance meetings along with knowledge and understanding of the legislative and regulatory frameworks
Ability to challenge constructively whilst maintaining positive and professional relationships.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to write and present complex, strategic reports to colleagues and Committees.
High level influencing and negotiation skills, with proven ability to work with others
Able to extract statistical data from records for monitoring purposes
High level strategic awareness and experience of strategic performance and risk management and analysis, and the skills to understand a range of complex issues
Internal audit experience
Experience of working at a senior level with Boards and Committees
Experience and understanding of managing key business risks
Experience of working within the housing sector (desirable)

Additional Information
Attendance at evening meetings and work outside of contractual hours may be required, including a willingness to travel.
